This is an excellent book! I've spent the last year or so trying to learn more about the Rendering Pipeline and Shader Programming, but the only information that I could find was kind of piecemeal, outdated and spread out over many, many sources. I was amazed to see that this book collects all of that information into a single place and the author does a great job of explaining otherwise very jargon heavy concepts. If you're looking to get into Shader Programming, this is definitely the best book that I've come across on the subject and it's the most recent book published that I've been able to find as well.

I purchased this coloring book because it is used in one of our history curriculums. I can't say it's my favorite historical coloring book, but there's nothing overwhelmingly wrong with it. Favorite or not, it will be used, and I'm sure the kids won't complain. 4 stars for being nice, but not the best out there.

Wanted to try Bellerophon coloring books. I LOVE Dover coloring books and own over 60. I ordered 3 Bellerophon titles and was disappointed in all 3! My advice go with Dover.

I bought this one for my son and he loves this book. I finally found something that gets him away from the video games.

The art is far too simplistic. Meant for children.

It's a coloring book. It's hard not to do it passably well.

I like this series of coloring books as wonderful line drawing references for use in art....they are fun and meditative to color with colored pencils as well when you are in a funk.This book has many classic medieval illustrations that are very cool.

Great coloring & history book! I Love the Middle Ages!!!

I was disappointed with the simple, comic-like drawings in this book. I found more detailed, real-life, and accurate pictures by doing a simple online search. This book is used for a home school curriculum we use (History Odyssey), and I had decided to buy another, similar coloring book (Middle Ages from Dover Coloring) instead of this one. After a few weeks of trying to find similar pictures in the other book, I gave up and ordered this one. The pictures, which are drawings of actual art from the Middle Ages, aren't horrible (except the one of Charlemagne; who drew that one, a 12 year old?) but they aren't that great either. ( Maybe that's just the way Middle Ages pictures are...?) My kids like the book, so I will use it, but I won't waste my money again on a coloring book before trying an image search online.

Fascinating. A very dense read so not for the faint of heart! But a good mystery, thoroughly researched.

The author explains what may have happened to the Greenland settlement colonized by the Icelanders and Norwegians, and which by about 1500 had ceased. Who, why and how it was colonized, and later on the conditions and European events that affected it. Well written and hard to put down.

Not only are Iceland and Greenland covered, but also the homelands, and minor explorations into NA. It is an interesting read.

Author Seaver seems to have ramsacked the archives of Iceland and Norway to compile a thorough history of five centuries of Norse settlement in Greenland, including the famous and ill-fated Norse effort to establish a colony in North America about 1000 AD. There are enough Olafs and Sigrids here to people Lake Wobegone. The author is apparently Scandinavian -- or speaks Icelandic and medieval Norwegian -- and is thus able to dig deeper than most authors on this topic. She presents her findings in dry professorial prose that may tell some readers more than they really want to know about the internal politics of the North Atlantic back in medieval times.The great mystery is, of course, why did the Norse colonies in Greenland disappear and when? A worsening climate, Innuit attacks, inbreeding, and isolation have all been cited as reasons. I won't reveal the author's conclusion except to say that she theorizes the Norse survived longer in Greenland -- perhaps after 1500 -- than most scholars believe. The most interesting and original part of the book for me was her examination of the important role of traders and cod fisherman from the English port of Bristol in the exploration of the North Atlantic in the 15th century. She makes a good case that these sailors might have reached the New World a few years before Columbus -- but like good fishermen everywhere kept their favorite fishing holes secret.All in all, this is a well-researched scholarly history with just enough learned speculation to keep a history and exploration buff reading on. It's the kind of book that -- if you're really, really a fanatic -- you could read a second time and benefit from many small points you missed on the first reading.Smallchief

This well-written scholarly work is difficult to put down as it traces the Greenland colonies from their establishment through their explorations of North America until their existance was "forgotten" by the Western World. Drawing on the latest works in archeology, medieval studies, and related scientific fields, this book provides illuminating insight into a unique culture on the edge of the known world and its final destiny.

This is a very well-written intellectual piece tracing Greenland colonies from establishment, to explorations of North America, and subsequently, their disappearance.The author portrays a history of over five centuries and has made discoveries that other researchers have missed. The author's conclusions are solid, however rather than sticking to solely historical facts, she speculates slightly on political issues. Nevertheless, the bulk of the book is thoroughly researched and well presented. An interesting read and a great way to learn some history as it is a book that is difficult to put down once you start.

Riveting, fast-paced and well written, Souad, the victim of an attempted honor killing in the West Bank during the late 1970’s, penned her memoir, “Burned Alive”, some twenty years later, from an undisclosed location in Europe. Souad believes she was born in 1957 or 1958, but cannot be sure, as records of females births were not kept in her village.A family member, determined to reclaim the honor of their family and their village, attempted the honor crime in which Souad nearly died. As Souad awaits death in the hospital, suffering from severe burns, she meets a woman determined to help her. The Swiss founded organization, SURGIR, familiar with cases such as Souad’s rescues her. In 2003, at the time of writing her memoir, some twenty-five years after the honor crime, Souad assumed her age at forty-five years old. Souad describes in vivid detail, the treatment of females in her village; for her safety, she refuses to name the village.Book translated to English by Judith Armbruster in 2004.

Read this book and weep for these poor souls. If possible contribute to Humanitarian organizations trying to help stop these outrageous customs and practices. If you can do nothing else attempt to educate others about the horror of Honor Killings, and pray that these countries will put an end to these atrocities as soon as possible. I really liked this book. The victim lived in the Ghaza strip in a small village. There she grew up traditional where women had not rights and weren't educated. She grew up in a family were unfortunately the mom only had one boy and a string of girls. Not all of her sisters grew up and as one of the older girls she was allowed to live after she was born. She ended up being the victim of what they call in her society honor killings. She didn't die right a way and was left to her own devices in the hospital where her family was still trying to kill her. She was found by a Western humanitarien aid worker and with the help of the aid worker was transported to Europe. By a miracle she survived and slowly made a life for herself and found happyness. Even in Europe it was hard for her to find a way to live in a world were women have rights and are respected. Her up bringing was so ingraned in her that she struggled decades to find a way to live in peace.Great book and I can only recommend it. I did find it sad that even today there are places where women are treated to badly eventhough the only crime they commited was being born a female.

It's hard to believe this kind of barbarity and ignorance still exists in our 21st century of supercomputers, space flights, and mega universities but, sadly, it does. And it shows once again how religion and traditions can cause enormous amounts of pain, fear, and horror. How this courageous woman managed to survive and prevail is truly amazing. And then to have her own mother join in with the cruelty and ignorance is mind-boggling. Some parts of the book are slow-moving but her experience with the acid attack are graphic and horrifying. But the truth needs to be told.

I have been studying Spanish on and off for a few years. I have another workbook and used Berlitz Basic Spanish, which I got bored of. I really was never interested in the language, it was always a curiosity. However, this somehow sparked a certain interest in me.I have heard of the Teach Yourself series, and I wanted to see what it was all about. I chose a language that I was familiar with to focus my opinion on the series. I really do enjoy the series. I have been using it close to a month. It comes in a very pretty box I think protects the book and CD. I noticed how nice the book looks and how colorful it is. I saw the older versions and it is an upgrade. Color catches my attention. I felt a little excited to use it because of the way it looked. I had literally forgotten what language it was until the first lesson. I am still using it, and I feel safe and easy. Little by little new information is presented. It does tap into what one learned before and builds on that, which is the best way I learn. Even the way grammar is given. I love grammar when it comes to language and tend to overdue it. That makes me forget the majority of what I would learn. Here the book gives just enough to see how the sentences are made within the script and learn what is what. (what a noun, verb, etc. is) I enjoy the cultural tips. I usually would have to google them and that only happens when I want to, which is rare. I like the speed of the voices on the audio; slow enough to grab every word but not to the point where I feel like they're treating me like a idiot. I like the Castilian accent that is used because that is my favorite one. I don't like the amount of English the audio uses. It is only reading the directions on the page back to me and telling me to do the instructions. That is annoying. I find the exercises a bit tedious but I also see they help with remembering.In conclusion, I really enjoy the Teach Yourself series. I do recommend this to anyone who is either dying to learn Spanish or, like me, satifying a curiosity from time to time. It is worth the money. That is coming from someone who is REALLY cheap!

Still working through this book...this is the second system I have purchased from Juan Kattan-Ibarra, and his books are truly in a teach yourself format that you can use to teach your entire family!

I liked at first, but by the time I used the second CD and realized it wasn't working properly. It was too late to return. So I haven't used anymore.

It is very basic but has good information for someone just starting out. I was looking to get closer to fluency and this book is not for that.

Excellent self-learning resource. Worth taking your time and really absorb and build on the exercises. Deceptively good book
