I got this for my 81 year old dad (who recently got an iPad- the first computer type thing to be under his roof)…. the IDEA was that he'd read it and be able to figure out more on his iPad. SO, he brings the book over to me to check out. I have a laptop- and am disabled, so having a mobile tablet isn't a necessity. I've never seen an iPad (which he didn't bring over to my place along with the book- so I have no idea how much it will help). I'm fairly good at getting through my computer (searches, purchases, info about weather, phone numbers, etc). I'm guessing I'll be able to get more options open to him when I go over to his house- where the book and iPad are in the SAME PLACE !! He has figured out how to find the weather forecast.OK- about the book ;) I like that it's larger print (I can use that- which looks like that is who will be reading the book). The 'Dummies' series are always winners with easy to understand information, as well as hitting the highlights and more detail, depending on what someone is looking for. When I'm looking for info on something new, I get the 'Dummies' books (I like the 'Idiot' books as well). Thumbs up :)

Never though I would 'resort' to Dummies. But-- I did! Not until I had downloaded a hundred pages of the iPad how-to manual. Printer ran low on ink resulting in a dim copy so I called Amazon and Zippo! There it was. BUY THIS BOOK! Quick track to enjoying your iPad. Nancy's tutoring is-- almost as easy as having my high-tech grandson doing personal instruction! The book is definitely a TEN.

I am not a fast tech learner and the iPad comes with no instruction. This book was a real life saver.

The author addresses in a step by step fashion how to use an ipad. I only wish I had it when I first bought mine. Each day I try to learn a new chapter. Soon I feel I will become much more proficient and at ease with this new technology. This is a fantastic book for seniors.

We bought this as a Christmas present for my mother-in-law, and she loves it. She has found it to be very useful and easy to read and understand. There is hope for her to learn the ins and outs of computer age technology! ;)

Given that the iPad is not particularly intuitive, it is not unexpected that any book pretending to explain how to use the iPad is going to have problems. In my opinion it is too wordy and fails to organize its information in an easily digested format. I would say that if one is familiar with the iPad or similar devices, then this book may be of some value. For those of us who despair of figuring out how to access the most basic features that the iPad is said to possess, this book just adds to the torment.

This book helped me a lot in learning how to do things on my iPad. First thing I learned, was how to adjust the size of the print and now I am learning all about taking pictures. This is well written in simple, easy to understand language. I highly recommend it for anyone just learning to use an iPad.

I bought this for my grandmother to help her with her new ipad. She found it very confusing and not very helpful. She's never used even a regular computer in her life so even many basic terms are foreign to her, and it would have been more helpful had the book explained those things better. It is for "seniors" after all and many/most seniors might be in the same position as my grandmother and not know a single thing about computers, so nothing is "common knowledge" and it shouldn't be assumed that they would know basic things going into it. It might be ok for someone who is familiar with computers but not someone who has never used one.

I had my 4th rotator cuff repair last week. My first was in 1983, right shoulder, second 1990 left shoulder, third 2001 right shoulder, and now my left shoulder again. All were different and physical therapy varied greatly depending on therapist. This last surgery was very complicated. Huge rotator cuff tear, torn bicep, bone spur, and arthritis. I had no prior knowledge about what to expect before my first surgery and a book like this would have helped a lot. All my experiences were quite different from the authors. I don't understand why she was left to pretty much fend for herself when bathing, dressing, removing her sling, and apparently pretty much everything. Where was her husband? My wife was a great assistant helping me through everything. We are now both retired and with her being with me at all times, I don't have to take any chances as the author apparently did.I would like to add a few suggestions to others about to go through surgery. The author had some great suggestions of items to buy. I'll add a few more. Buy a good mat for your tub or shower so you don't slip. Buy a very long hose so you can use a shower head attachment that can reach all parts of your body while sitting in a shower chair. Buy a back brush to keep by your sink so you can have a handle to hold with your bad arm while washing your good hand with the brush. Buy a tooth numbing gel such as Hurricain sold here on Amazon. Those sticky pads used on monitors can leave a residue that can itch for days. The numbing gel gives much needed relief. Buy a nylon mesh sling here at Amazon to wear while showering and use a small memory foam pillow to hold your arm out like the pillow on your regular sling does. The author took a huge chance bathing without wearing a sling. My regular sling is made of a padded synthetic material that caused my forearm to itch and break out in a rash. My wife put a cotton dish towel between my arm and the sling. That took care of the rash and itching.After four rotator cuff surgeries I've learned a lot, but my best advice is get help with as much as you can if there is any chance you may cause further injury to your shoulder. Get creative to make things as easy as possible. Take things slow and easy, do your therapy and you'll be a functioning person before you know it. Be prepared to make compromises for the rest of your life because your shoulder will never be as good as it once was.

This book was a great help to me before having surgery to repair a “massive” tear in my rotator cuff. Not only did I learn what to expect before, during, and after surgery—I learned how to prepare. The book is full of helpful hits and shopping lists of things to have in the home before the day of your surgery. The doctor and his staff are all about the medical aspects of the surgery—they do not spend a lot of time on how to live your life after surgery. This book fills that void. I know my recovery was easier and faster because I read this book—thank you, Anne.

This is a worst case book so you should read it but you shouldn't go out and buy everything in the book. Not all shoulder surgeries are the same. I've had two, one very simple one with a quick recovery and another more recent complicated shoulder repair. You should ask your surgeon what kind of recovery he or she expects for you to have . I found a recliner, wedge pillow and Cyro-Cuff to be necessary just in order to get some sleep/rest. They are supposed to be used by one person for one surgery but I borrowed mine. I didn't need to cut up my shirts, help getting in and out of the shower or any of the other extreme things but the advice should be helpful to those that do. I live on my own although I did need people to come over and run small errands for me, I had a lot of food in the freezer. I live in the city and was able to drag my cart around the corner and buy some ice and have groceries delivered to me.

I had surgery on my right shoulder 5 years ago. It was hell. Wish I had had this book then. Now I am facing possible surgery on my left shoulder. Anne's book is vert relate able and useful.

This was a good heads up of what to expect. The author is a little over the top, but surgery is scary. This surgery ranks very high on my list of painful surgeries. I have had several. I am 10 weeks out and still need PT. Some of the items that she recommended, are no longer available and not necessary. I did cut some T-shirts but not her way. I cut out the ribs around the necks and the sleeves and opened under the arm pits a little. I wore these for about 2 weeks. She did have lots of recommendations. I prepared accordingly. Some things I did not feel a need for, some things, I bought and did not use. It is a good summary of what you might encounter and well worth the price. It was easy to read and I took one recommendation for sure. Do not leave your clothes in a drawer or closet. I did put a chair in my room and piled the necessary stuff on the chair and on the floor for several weeks. about 7. You will not feel like nor want to ask someone else to find your clothes all the time. Her shower preparation recommendations are well taken for safety. One other thing. Follow the doctor's orders, do the PT as required and YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU WENT THROUGH WITH IT. I am still working. Weeks 7-10 and after get easier. I am near the 10 week mark, now. One thing that I purchased and needed frequently :::: SAFETY PINS not on her list. I used them to adjust straps on my braces because the shortest adjustment is too long. to hold the adjustments in place because some of the straps kept falling, and for a lot of other nitpicking things during the first few weeks.

This book was incredibly helpful. My mom had rotator cuff surgery and stayed with me during her recovery. This book was a quick read and it had a lot of valuable information regarding things you might need and what to expect during your recovery. My mom was amazed at how I knew what things she needed to make her life easier before she even knew. The author is very down to earth as the book is written from her point of view about her recovery from shoulder surgery. I highly recommend this book to anyone having shoulder surgery or if you are even a caretaker of someone having surgery.

Bad. Good ideas written badly. Borrows heavy from other stories. Writing on par with a teenager. Repetitive explanations of plot. Fixated on sodomy. One of worst books ever read. Wish could give lower than one star. Hopefully I change mind after next two books in series because I was dumb enough to buy them all before reading this absolutely giant turd sandwich. A true dumpster fire of writing. Worth reading just to see how bad it is and get a laugh

The premise of the book was great.The writing and editing of the book was atrocious.I tried to read this book in the hopes the story would pull me in...It didn't and it couldn't

These isn't Interview with the Vampire or the Twilight series, but real badass vampires that kill, rape, plunder, and ravage. There's a vampire mob boss that makes Don Corleone seem like a pussycat, there's a killer of vampires who happens to be a vampire himself, and only fees from vampire blood, there's discussion of ancient Rome, Judea, Egypt, and even the demon Lilith. If you're easily offended, don't read this book, but if you like splatterpunk and real raw horror, then you will enjoy it. It's a real page turner, I finished it in days.

The vamps in this book are scary, sadistic and described very well. The things they do to humans and each other are horrible and made me cringe a few times. The book is pretty well written, maybe a little slow paced at times, but good for the most part. I didn't want to put it down until I was finished and that's usually my main motivation for giving 5 stars. The storyline is really cool - Lilith created vampires and then turned the Roman soldier who speared Jesus on the cross into a badass vampire killer who was also a vamp, but he ended up having a conscious and rebelled against her. There's a lot of back and forth between the modern time period of the story's setting and Longinus' flashback to how he was created. The fight scenes and characterizations are very detailed so it's easy to imagine most of the story unfolding. There's a little bit of romance and a lot of sex, mostly of the rape variety. It's not a pleasant story, but it could make a great supernatural action movie where you really hate the bad guys and the good guy is totally bad ass.

I read quite a bit of vampire fiction and it has become a chore to wade through all of the stinkers that have flooded the market of late. It's refreshing to find a new author who has put together both an original story and developed some seriously interesting characters, as Alan Kinross has done with "Longinus The Vampire". A story thousands of years in the making, as Loginus goes back to the time of Christ. His interesting history collides with the present as his soul mate is taken from him and he is set on vengeance. This story was intriguing, erotic, raw and definitely hard to put down.

Longinus is a vampire with special skills given to him by Lilith, which make him the most dangerous of all vampires. But, he still struggles with his former human emotions. This struggle is described in wonderful detail by Mr. Kinross. This book is definitely not for teenage girls or romance buffs! It's a delicious tale of jealously, lust, avarice, gore and sexual depravity among vampires! A definite read for "humans" who crave vampire lore.

After my second read of this book, I decided to write a review. While it is Mr. Kinross' freshman novel, I found "Longinus the Vampire" intriguing, exciting, definitely a hard-to-put-down read, and...sexy as hell! After all, what's sexier than a vampire with a conscience that shifts into hero-mode when people are in trouble? One of my several favorite quotes from the novel is as follows: "The moonlight covered the tombstones with an ethereal glow, and the statues above the tombs stood like silent guards waiting for something to happen'.Longinus is not a "typical" vampire...he has a predestined path that he must follow. Mr. Kinross has written an imaginative novel with a new twist on the character of a vampire. It allowed my imagination to soar taking me into a world of darkness and depravity, but with the hope of a light at the end of the tunnel.

Many vampire stories follow a common thread. This story doesn't do that, which is refreshing. The suggestion of our history being revisionist is intriguing and imaginative.I would consider this erotica and not recommended for children, but that warning is clearly stated so there should be no surprises. It's not so graphic as to be offensive either. In fact, it was an integral part of the story.I read this book quickly...I couldn't put it down for too long before needing to go back to it. The ending completely took me by surprise (do not cheat and peek or you will regret it).Can't wait for the next book!

You will be encouraged to see life in a way that moves you to grow and to risk and find comfort and meaning and sometimes (maybe often?) in the most unlikely places. You will fall in love with a donkey and a dog and neighbours and a family and a God who really does work in surprising and wonderful ways. Rachel's writing is warm and engaging, interesting and moving. She handles language in such a way that it makes a "simple" donkey and hisexploits (and those of his new family) come alive. Her ability to see beyond the "obvious" and draw life changing and transforming meaningout of the everyday (and not so everyday) happenings, crises, challenges, surprises, conundrums and blessings is a gift I'm so glad she shared with us.I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I have one regret -- that I cannot put into words just how beautifully written and how wonderfulthis book is...and how good for the soul.

Rachael Ann ridge shared her vulnerability, the same vulnerability most people share. She shared with us how the Lord showed his mercy and grace for her as she meditated on lessons she learned from her donkey. I appreciated her honest and her h u not. I have told almost everyone to read it, because we all can so relate to her human fears. Most of us have seen the powers of grace, a few could use the reminder that it is the traveling not the destination that is important. Who we travel with can make us or break us. Don't miss out. I could really relate to her emotions and thoughts, and felt she put it all together very well in this story.Most importantly, to me, was the fact that there was not one use of bad language. Great deal on this textbook

This is the book I used when I attended graduate school of journalism 20 years ago. It was one of very few books available at the time to survey the state of global journalism. The book includes a wide range of news media landscape around the world. Each chapter was authored by a scholar who is knowledgeable in the region or country. As a journalism major, I learned a lot from this book. The book is written with teens as well as adults in mind, and though she focuses on the basic essentials, I found in inspiring.Highly recommended to anyone with a desire to have some fun, and with some good planing and effort, share it with others.

I always enjoy getting my annual copy of this work. Last year, we had a special event scheduled for February and everyone was nervous about getting snowed out. I reached for my trust Almanac, and it said that the weather would be fine. Indeed, the Almanac was right (of course, no one felt especially confident because of my reference to this publication!).Each year, there are some unique elements; others are traditional from year to year (such as the weather projections). Some matters of interest--the calendar for meteor showers (page 92). On January 24, 25 meteors per hour will rain down in the skies. Best viewing is just before dawn and the meteors will come in from the north. What more information could one want for watching a meteor shower? I'm not a fisherman, but I can see how a person interested in angling might find useful the section on "Best fishing days and times." For instance, the Almanac says that July 1-15 will be prime, when the moon is between new and full. One nice thing about these projections is that one can actually check them out to see if the Almanac is even close. There's also a brief sidebar on how to estimate the weight of a fish. Or, the extent to which manners have or have not changes (pages 168 and following).Of course, the one part that is so often focused upon is the weather predictions. I am located in Region 3 (which includes central Pennsylvania, and extends from Elmira, NY in the north to Asheville, NC in the south). Since winter can get frisky here, let's take a look at February. Temperature will average a wee bit higher than normal; precipitation (code word for snow) will be average. Dates when snow might hit us include the 11th-15th (snow showers) and the 16th-19th (snowstorm and then sunny) and the 25th-28th (rain turning to snow). So, I'll keep this little prediction (and others) in front of me to see how well the old Almanac does!Another year and another visit from this old publication friend.

A Christmas tradition at my house, brought by Santa and found in the stocking (helps to fill up the stocking!). I especially like this almanac because it has less popular culture in it (movie stars, singers, etc). As a family who watches very little TV the popular culture/entertainment aspects of other almanacs were not of much interest.Highly recommend this book for months of casual reading.

The Old Farmer's Almanac has been used by the gardeners in my family for over 50 years. I grew up watching my Grandfathers read it and when I read it it is like an old friend giving me advice. I think they've backed off a bit on the weather prediction (which was always great fun if not always accurate) but the information in there is the backbone of a garden worked by the seasons/weather. The articles are always fun and informative. It's just one of those books that seems to go with a healthy backyard garden.I just wish they hadn't sold the 2012 edition at the end of 2012 because I accidently got THAT one instead of the 2013 one! Oops.

I searched several local stores for this old favorite, and couldn't find it anywhere locally. Amazon had it though. This is a wonderful Almanac, and by far the BEST one on the market in my opinion. Even if you aren't a gardener, you will enjoy all the information packed into this book. Loads of interesting and informative articles. I remember curling up with the Old Farmers Almanac when I was 9 or 10 and enjoying reading the many diverse articles, trivia, etc in it. I was so happy to find this still available thru Amazon--and I received it in record time as well, actually got it the day before the estimated delivery.

Love the Old Farmer's Almanac. No other almanac will do. I usually pick one up at the grocery store after christmas, but this year I could only find other brand's of the almanac. So, i had intended to make a trip to other stores on the weekend to find one, and then I thought... Oh yeah, i can order it from amazon (!)I have to say, i'm loving my new Amazon Prime membership and its free 2-day shipping. Now instead of running around town on my days off to pick up items I just place an order and find the item on my doorstep a couple days later.

The Farmers Almanac is always a good bet. Fun facts, good recipes, a bit of history and of course weather predictions. Some years they are better at predictions than others, but I never go without my Farmers Almanac!

I love the Old Farmer's Almanac and their Gardening Calendars. I order several of each, every year, to give as Christmas presents and also to have a set for myself. The Gardening Calendar is a pleasure all the way around, with little gardening tips and folklore trivia each month, and pleasant drawings of flowers. The perfect gift for yourself, and for the gardener in your life!

My 9yr old bought my husband a Ukulele for Father's Day (well I helped finance it). This was her music book of choice for him (doesn't everyone love Taylor?). She is overjoyed that her Dad can play Taylor Swift and they have had many a dance party thanks to this book. Our only complaint is that it's all "older" songs, however that is the nature of printed material so it's not a big drawback.

This is a beautifully presented album, a rather unusual find. I bought it as a Xmas present for my 8-year old granddaughter who loves Taylor Swift. HOWEVER! The songs are just way too low for her to sing. They are even too low for MOI & I'm a church alto. I think I'm going to have to transpose these eventually...but that's kinda a put off, huh?

Purchased this for my 9 year old daughter. She is learning to play the ukulele and loves Taylor Swift. Some of the chords are difficult for her level of experience, but because she knows and likes the songs it motivates her to learn and practice.
