I bought this book without reading the preview or reviews because it was an Audrey Faye. For some reason I still struggle with first person present tense when reading, but that did not stop me from reading her shifter story straight through to the end in one sitting. I will probably reread it more slowly in the next few days. All her characters have well developed personalities. The heroes are ordinary and have what others might perceive as flaws, but those flaws become gifts. Audrey Faye, Thank you again for making my heart feel as light and fluffy as the marshmallows the pack fondly eats.
I'm a fan of this author, so was hopeful when she announced a new series. This drew me in quickly with an interesting story and well-drawn characters. This book is now my favorite of hers, and I think is her best work yet. I'm looking forward to more! Thanks for building another community thats makes us think about who we are and how we treat one another.
Read through kindle unlimited then purchased. Have read several times already and definitely recommend.Like many of Audrey's stories, this defies easy classification. Shifters of many kinds but no romance and definitely no sex. Anticipate that any romance will be gradual and spread over the series. Many of the characters have to heal before they can grow.A new alpha trying to figure out how to help his inherited pack that has been broken by the previous alpha and his dominants. A coming of age story for the hero. A novel of struggle and rebirth, of forming family bonds new and old. Where to start, how to prioritize the needs and who can be healed or redeemed becomes the focus of this part of the story.An ensemble cast with events progressing mainly through the point of view of the hero Hayden and the heroine Lissa. A few others sneak in toward the end. Quite a few scene stealers.Triggers? Nothing depicted. Definitely mention of a lot of psychological and physical abuse by the late alpha. No talk of rape but many characters have not told their stories yet.I love the author's Fixers of Karma Corp series and, even though this is only book one, the potential for Ghost Mountain Shifters to rival or surpass Fixers is high.Eagerly checking my email for notification of the release of book two.cross posted good reads, amazon, book bub
I love this first story.....I don't know if the author would agree but i find the feeling reminiscent of the witch series that she penned a number of years ago. I have since tried some of her different series, but could never embrace them fully.....until now....I look forward to the next one. My only complaint is that i got nothing done all day, forgoing my work to indulge in reading instead.
Part of this review will only make sense to those of you who knew Audrey Faye in a previous incarnation, but before I get to that, I will just say, “Read this. You won’t be disappointed.â€As an avid reader, I can honestly say that few others have been able to create the sense of community I found in this book. Three shifters out to commune with nature accidentally find themselves in charge of a pack that desperately needs help healing the scars left by the former alpha. Filled with quiet moments and small children who will steal your heart, I would definitely be sure to have the time to finish this in one sitting. Beautifully written. I can’t wait for the second one to be released.For those who know of that other incarnation, I found echoes of Nat and Jamie’s love story, and of that beautiful community that pulled together to embrace even the outcasts, giving them a sense of home and reminding me (the reader) of just how strong those who appear broken truly are.
love Audrey's writing. I've said it many times before but her characters and lyrical narrative are the gold standard for craft in the SFF domain.I laughed and cried and felt such joy in this story. If you've read her Karma Corps novels, you'll feel the same tone and character interaction but in a totally different setting. For these are Weres in a forest, trying to create a pack out of one which has become totally dysfunctional due to a narcissistic, manical alpha who uses fear and torture as leadership tools. What follows is both a study in social dynamics and the consequences of abuse as well as a heart moving lesson in recovery and the impact of love and trust.Highly recommended!
I have enjoyed everything I have read from Audrey Faye, including what she wrote under a previous pen name. Great stories, lots of emotion and characters that you fall in love with.This one had me worried since there are so many supernatural "Shifter" romances out there, and I don't really care for them. But I should have known better! While there is love, and caring... and a lot of adorable characters, it is not one of the "Harlequin Werewolf" romances (as I call them)! Just a good book, written a little differently than usual (first person viewpoints)... and I am looking forward to the next one the series! I would not say this is the best writing she has done, but everything she writes is good... so you can't go wrong with this book either.
